Book Review: Little House in the Big Woods

Name: Little House in the Big Woods

Author: Laura Ingalls Wilder

Brief summary: Laura Ingalls is a little girl living in "The Big Woods" of Wisconsin. She lives with her Ma (Caroline), Pa (Charles) and sisters Mary and Carrie. This is the first book in the "Little House on the Prairie series" and it tells of Laura's early years (I think she's four or five...).

Comments: This has been one of my favorite books ever since I was really little. And when I say really little, I mean REALLY little. My mom would read it out loud to my sister and I. I always remember wanting to be Mary because she was blonde like me, and Sarah always wanted to be Laura because they both had brown hair. Now that we're older, Sarah and I look back and laugh, because I was never ANYTHING like Mary and Sarah was never anything like Laura. I would be the one getting in trouble and being the mischievious one and Sarah would be the perfect one who told on me. :)

Grade/Age level: 4 and up.

Cautions: none

If you like this book, you might also like . . . Anne of Green Gables? Little Women?

Personal Opinion: It rocks. :)

Rating: 8/10

I love that book! That and On The Banks of Plum Creek were my favorite books in third or fourth grade.

I love the name of your blog. Shakespeare and Showtunes are both things that I love. :D Oh! You're reading Anne of Avonlea! Isn't Davy ADORABLE? :D He reminds me of my own blond-haired brother. And An Old-Fashioned Girl! I love Polly. And all the characters in that book. :D

You seem like a kindred spirit. :D

My sister used to love on the Banks of Plum Creek. :) I actually found our copy in her room lol. My personal favorite one is "These Happy Golden Years". *Sigh* Almanzo ROCKS! He is sooo sweet! I wish I knew him and Gilbert Blythe. and Laurie, of course! :)

I've read all of the Anne of G.G books before, and I can sorta remember Davy. Doesn't he have a sister named Dora?

You seem like a kindred spirit to me too. :D

Glad to meet another teen who likes Shakespeare and Showtunes. :) LOL

I love These Happy Golden Years too. I thought I was going to hate it because even though I secretly liked romance, my mother was reading it out loud to us, and I was afraid I would be embarrassed hearing it. But my sister and I liked that one so much that we couldn't even wait for evening for my mom to read it to us - I read it to my sister myself! :D I always loved (well, loved to hate) Nellie, so I was glad when she came back to make more trouble. :P

Yep, I love Almanzo and Gilbert. And I love Bear and Fish from Regina Doman's books.

Yes, Davy's twin sister was Dora, but she wasn't as interesting as Davy. :P
