Book Review: Love Comes Softly

Brief summary:Marty is a young pioneer woman, recently widowed and pregnant with no place to live and no means to go home. Clark Davis asks her to be his wife of "convenience" since he needs a caretaker for his young daughter, Missie, and Marty needs food and shelter. Not at all interested, but desperately in need, she accepts. This first book explains the first 6-8 months of this strange marriage. Marty is determined to pull her weight and do her time until Spring when Clark has agreed to pay her way home. The book is wholesome, funny, suspense filled and holds the reader's interest from cover to cover. (from Amazon.com)

Cautions: They talk about Marty being pregnant, the loss of a husband or wife, a girl says she is pregnant to marry a "bad boy", a girl is beaten to death.

Personal Opinion: WOW! This is the best book I've read in a long time! I loved everything about it! The characters, the writing style, the plot, everything is perfection! I was crying, laughing, and sighing along with the characters. The writing style was really descriptive. Oke used this awesome phrase I've never heard before: Dad-burn. I am SO saying that in my everyday life now. What I also loved about it was that she wrote exactly how they spoke. So, when Marty and Clark say just, In the book it's put as "jest". Or your is "yer". So, Your cow is just fine was "Yer cow is jest fine." It's such an awesome book... I'm already begging my mom to take me to the library so I can get the sequel!

Random tidbit: There was an AMAZING movie made a couple of years ago with Katherine Heigl... It's REALLY good. It was directed by Michael Landon, Jr. (Yes, Michael Landon's son. He directs the best inspirational movies..) So, go watch it!

If you like this book, you might also like . . . I have NO idea.
Personal Opinion: It was really.... odd. I was definitely not expecting this. At least it wasn't as weird as Jinx (which, by the way, is SO weird. don't read it. just don't). But it was entertaining and funny. I think I like some of Meg's other books better though. Like The Princess Diaries, Pants on Fire, How to Be Popular, and All American Girl (NOT the sequel.)

Book Review: John Paul 2 High: Catholic, Reluctantly

Name: John Paul 2 High: Catholic, Reluctantly
Author: Christian M. Frank
Brief summary: Allie Weaver is a fifteen year old who was just shot at in her public school. After that scare, her mom decides that it would be best if she went to a new Catholic highschool, John Paul 2 High. Before Allie goes there, there are only five students. And it's run by three of the students' parents.
Grade/Age level: 13 and up
Cautions: They mention the priest scandals briefly, mention sex briefly, divorce, an unwed mother. but all mentioned VERY briefly. Oh, and also, there was a school shooting. Nobody got shot, but someone was shot at.
If you like this book, you might also like . . . The Fairy Tale Novels by Regina Doman
Personal Opinion: I really loved this book! It's VERY Catholic, but only if you know it is and if you look for the Catholic stuff. After I finished reading it. I put it down, pondered it, and than picked it up to read it again!! I had my mom read it, and she loved it too! We're both impatiently waiting for the sequel. ;) The way that Frank portrays the characters... They might as well be yourself! or your cousin, or your enemy, or your best friend, or your sibling!! Frank made the characters so everyone could think, "Hey, that reminds of so and so!" For example, Celia reminded me of one of my best friends Emalee. Emalee is "emo" but only in the way she dresses and the music she listens to. But she goes out of her way to be friendly and is always SOOOOOOOOOO nice to everyone! Liz on the other hand, reminded me of my sister Sarah. :p One thing..... I wish there was a John Paul 2 High in MY area!! Amazing Job Regina Doman and the rest of the team!!!!
